Chapter 1.23: Future, So Big

Michael has some serious questions for Amira as her birthday approaches.
"Were you serious about getting married after high school?"
"Of course!" Amira doesn't even have to think twice about this. Michael is the only one that has ever treated her like she was worth anything. Most of the boys in school sneered at her because of her athleticism and bad attitude but Michael has always been kind. The only thing Amira is absolutely sure of is that she wants Michael in her life.

"Your birthday is coming soon and mine is still a while away. Are you sure you want to wait?"
"Our birthdays are only a couple of days apart. I can wait if you can."
Amira tries to keep her hopeful tone muted. It would be crushing if he changed his mind.
"I can wait." Michael concludes with a smile.
Amira grins and lets relief wash over her.

Moira is less troubled by her future. She knows Marques will ask her to marry him and she knows they'll live happily ever after with 2.5 children, a dog and a white picket fence. Just like in the movies.

Amira's anxiety climbs as her birthday looms ever closer. She works out to keep herself busy and somewhat sane.

"Must. . . run. . . faster.," she huffs.
Not even Amira is sure what she's running from.

"I never pictured you with hair. I have to capture this image of you for posterity."

"I got a job," Marques says as Moira's eyes scan over his taller, fuller frame. "I've even started to put some money aside for a house."
Moira pictures the white picket fence again and feels even more secure in her future.

Varinia spends time with her grandchildren. They grow up so quickly.

Salvatore is already a toddler. He looks so much like Maeve that Varinia is almost transported back in time.

Tickle tickle! This whole grandma thing is super fun.

Moira obsesses over Marques' new manly features. She can't wait for her birthday. She can see her future in these eyes.

"Do they like mac and cheese?" Varinia asks. "I can make a pretty tasty mac and cheese."

Marques can't bear to leave Moira's side. It's a good thing he chooses to nap on the couch. Claude was getting ready to pummel someone if needed.

"Mom! Congratulations on finally marrying dad and all that."
"Thank you, sweetie."
Varinia dares not ask about Selma's love life. She knows Selma had a brief fling with an older gentleman that passed away from old age before things could progress any further. That is more than Varinia is comfortable knowing at the moment. She doesn't mean to be ageist but something about her daughter dating elderly men is creepy. Maybe because Varinia herself should be elderly if not for the potion Maeve so graciously gifted to her.

"We're getting married, dad, lighten up."
"You're still in high school. He should respect that and go home until you're an adult."
"We're not doing anything, dad. Marques is very respectful."
Claude sighs in frustration.

Future looming big and scary and unknown.

Huffing, puffing and sweat. Maybe Amira will be able to sleep tonight instead of worrying about what the future holds for her.

With two hit movie composers in the house there's a fairly large influx of cash. Varinia uses a very large portion to do something she's always wanted.

She remodels the master bedroom and bath.

She replaces everything with only the very best. She's determined to live out the rest of her life in luxury.

Amira busies herself with useless skills.

Perfect.

I'm not ready, Amira thinks frantically.

This little boy appeared in my town and I had a bit of a panic attack at the prospect of Claude having possibly procreated without my knowledge. Turns out he's the son of a random vamp I put in the town. Phew!

  1. Lol at random townie with similar coloring.

Amira is awesome. I love her fretting over the future and how it contrasts with Moira's dream of a picture perfect life.

    1. That poor kid scared the poop out of me. I was like OMG NOT AGAIN! Then I checked out his stats and was like, oh he's just a rando. Yay!

I absolutely love Amira. She's a lot like me. She doesn't think too far ahead and then when the time comes to make a decision she just does the first thing that seems like a good fit and then rationalizes it later. Moira on the other hand has always had a perfect idea of what she wants from life.
