Chapter 2.2: AVH + MVH 4 Eva!

Amira really likes her parents' new room. It's so stylish and chic and most of all, quiet. It's the perfect hideaway from all her relatives asking too many questions that she doesn't have the answers to.
Oh! This muffin recipe looks promising. . .

Moira just wants to finish this portrait of her mother before she runs off. She's so ready to be married and see the world with Marques.

Cooking has not soothed Amira's anxieties about anything, including her newly acquired life of crime. How is she supposed to tell her family? More importantly, how is she supposed to tell Michael? It's not so bad, she thinks. I'm simply redistributing. That has a nice ring to it.

These are the issues she wrestles with minute by minute. She's never been jealous of any of her sisters but as the future looms closer she finds herself wishing she could be like Moira or Maeve, set in her decisions. Sure of herself and everything around her.

Amira decides there's no time like the present. She gathers up her courage and approaches her mother tentatively, "So, mom, I got a job. It's actually very interesting and challenging."
"That's great, Amira! I knew you would figure something out as soon as you put your mind to it."

"I'm a thief, mom. But not like the awful stealing for anyone kind. I have a code like Robin Hood. I only target those that don't deserve what they have."
Amira can see that her mother is troubled by this revelation.
"I see," Varinia says. "I cannot tell you how to live your life even if I don't agree with it. I just want you to be careful but above everything, I want you to be happy like I have been. Don't let the judgement of others guide your life path."
Amira lets out a sigh of relief.

"I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't feel like it was the best option for me. It's not even about the money, I just want to make sure everyone has what they deserve in life."
Varinia nods and embraces her daughter, "As long as it's right for you."

She has a job, her mother is aware of her work, her sister is about to leave the house and Amira only has one last thing to secure, a husband. Take that future! I've got this. Amira laughs as she sets out on a jog to temper her nerves.

With her last portrait done, Moira begins the packing process.

Michael's house is well manicured and definitely in a better location than her own. Amira doesn't want to think about everything that he would be giving up to be with her. The money, the house, his family, their good name. It's no surprise that everyone in town looks down on her family. They're the weirdos that live out by the abandoned train tacks, definitely not the portrait of perfection that Michael's family is.

"Michael."
"Hey, you look . . . older. Thank goodness my birthday is tonight."
"That's actually what I'm here to talk to you about." Amira glances around nervously. "Is this your bedroom?"
"It's my mom and step dad's. You're being kind of weird, Amira."

"Sorry, look I know we have some differences. You're a couch potato and I'm athletic but I can see past all of that and I. . . well I want to make sure that you do to. That you still, you know, want to marry me."
"Of course I still want to get married. I'm counting down the hours until my birthday!"
"But you'd be losing all of this, your family, the house. . . "
Michael interrupts her mid ramble, "And I'd be gaining you. What more could I want?"

"If you weren't still a teen I'd kiss you right now and other things. I should probably get a bigger bed for us."
"Just hug me already!"

She hugs him as tightly as she can.

Amira jogs home and contemplates how far she's come in just one day. She went from not knowing what she would be doing with her life to securing a job and a husband. She's ecstatic.

She's also quite tired. With Michael's birthday just a few hours away, Amira grabs a nap in her bunk bed for one last time before she completely remodels the room.

Meanwhile Varinia visits her eldest daughter to congratulate her on her third pregnancy.

"This is so exciting," Varinia remarks.

"I think Moira is going to elope."
"I'm going to." Amira admits.
"Wait. . .what?"
"Gotta run!"

Varinia and Claude celebrate raising five intelligent and successful daughters.

"Just try not to light me on fire, please."

Amira's heart drops through the floor when she turns around and sees Michael standing in the middle of the bar. He's not the teenager she saw just earlier that day, he's all man now.

"Little red corvette no more. Manhood looks good on you."
"Just kiss me already."

Michael pulls her to him and kisses her like his life depends on it.

"Man, this is brilliant. I can't wait to get married and finally start realizing my dreams."

"Why wait, Amira?"

"Just don't move."

"Let's get married right now! I think we've waited long enough."

"Yes! Let's do it, Michael!"

Amira and Michael run off to the Twinbrook Communith Gardens in the wee hours of the night.

"Let's do this. All I need is you, Michael."

They have a private wedding at the gardens.

Commemorating the moment for everyone.

After packing up what little Michael owns they arrive home to find Varinia and Claude telling scary stories in the foyer.

"I wasn't planning on doing this first thing but Michael and I got married last night. He's moving in."

"I'm so happy for you, Amira!"

Michael approaches Claude to share the news.
"We, uh, got married last night."

"I seriously don't want to think about this right now. It's her choice and everything but she's still my little girl."
Could have been worse, Michael thinks.

"Congratulations on your private wedding!"

"I'm finally leaving home and moving in with Marques."
"I'm going to miss you," Amira says.
"Look on the bright side, you and Michael won't have to share your bedroom with me."
Amira laughs, "True."

"I'll see you at the theater, dad. I'm not going very far."
"I can still be upset," Claude says while trying to hold back tears.

One daughter is running off to live her life and the other has come home married. How'd they grow up so quickly?

"Don't cry, mom! I'll be just down the road."
"My babies!"

"You be brilliant, don't ever let anyone dull your shine," Varinia says.
